What’s a Sawasdee Event?
‘Sawasdee‘ (pronounced Sah-wat-dii) is the Thai word for Hello, or just a plain ubiquitous form of greeting.
A Sawasdee event is a small group or event held virtually (via zoom or other platforms) or in-person where and when feasible, so that we can share about missions, especially as it relates to Thailand where we are currently engaged, and the vision and burden God’s laying on our hearts, what God is doing on the field and so on.
The aim is to:
- Cross-cultural mission awareness in general
- Spread a burden for Thailand and generate interest in the kingdom-move of God across the land
- Inform about how we are involved, what we are doing and the direction of the mission labors
- Possibly have some who might be interested in visiting, supporting and praying
- Any other specific objective(s) indicated by the host
Who can be a Host?
Any body who has a heart for missions, a heart for Thailand or a heart for us, and anyone who wants to play the mission role of ‘advocate’ or ‘mobilizer’ or act as a ‘sender’ can host a ‘Sawasdee’ event. It can even be someone who’s just interested in learning more and exploring, and wants to bring others along as well.
What does it take?
Well, not much! Just get at least 5 friends together, any five people or more. This can be done over zoom or skype or Google Meet, or whatever platform works best, so they could be anywhere in the world. If and when possible, this event can also be done in person. It would require a minimum of 40 mins, and a maximum of 2 hours. So, depending on how much time people can spare, we could get it done in just over a half-hour or all the way to a couple of hours or whatever time requirements you might have. That’s really all it takes. We could discuss further details with an interested host before hand, as might be necessary.
